It is used in the treatment of catabolic processes or tissue reducers. Oxandrolone is indicated in conditions such as chronic infections, major surgery, (corticosteroid induced myopathy, decubitus ulcers, burns), or severe trauma, where it is required to stop the effects of catabolic processes or loss of proteins. It is important to remember that this type of substances are adjuvants in these cases and do not replace conventional treatment of these disorders. It is also used for the treatment of Turner’s Syndrome, to treat short stature observed in these patients. However the theraphy is still controversial, reports on recent experiments show that Oxandrolone can be effective as a growth hormone and that it can increase the efficacy of growth hormone therapy.
